I have tried to use an automatic email notification when a new blog post appears, and it actually works!
You can add your email address into this form on the right side of the blog:
It uses a service called Follow.It https://follow.it/all-news?login . I created an account there, linked the RSS feed, and now emails are sent automatically when I post a new blog entry, to anyone who has subscribed. I tested this since September, works great.
